History



Besides native Indian tribes, first settlers arrived in Deerfield from Miami in 1877. The Hillsborough River was a primary attraction for first 20 dwellings along its shores. In 1896, East Coast Railway Lines promoted agricultural trade with outside communities. Harvesting tasty Deerfield potatoes was once the mainstay of regional economy. These tomatoes were heavily exported to other Florida communities and across Southern United States. It was also at this time that the name Deerfield became famous because large number of deer would graze near Hillsborough river bank. In 1947, a prominent civic organization, Lion’s Club, paved the transition from agriculture to tourism by establishing Pioneer Park and other recreational facilities.

Modern Deerfield forms a part of the larger South Florida Metropolitan Area. The hub of all activities is the oceanfront which is literally encompassed by hundreds of apartments, condos and Beach houses. This price decreases as accommodations are rented inland.
