Deerfield Beach

History

Besides native Indian tribes, first settlers arrived in Deerfield from Miami in 1877. The Hillsborough River was a primary attraction for first 20 dwellings along its shores. In 1896, East Coast Railway Lines promoted agricultural trade with outside communities. Harvesting tasty Deerfield potatoes was once the mainstay of regional economy. These tomatoes were heavily exported to other Florida communities and across Southern United States. It was also at this time that the name Deerfield became famous because large number of deer would graze near Hillsborough river bank. In 1947, a prominent civic organization, Lion’s Club, paved the transition from agriculture to tourism by establishing Pioneer Park and other recreational facilities.

Description

Modern Deerfield forms a part of the larger South Florida Metropolitan Area. The hub of all activities is the oceanfront which is literally encompassed by hundreds of apartments, condos and Beach houses. In fact, Deerfield Beach rentals are always in high demand throughout the year. Major points of interest include Beach Pier, Island Park, Quiet Waters Park and the famous Deerfield Beach Arboretum. In spite of its proximity to Miami and other popular tourist destinations, Deerfield Beach is more laid back than its counterparts. This is also a reason for continuous demand for Deerfield Beach house rentals which make up the scenic portion of low lying buildings along the Atlantic Ocean.

Residents

There are close to one million people who call Deerfield Beach home. Although 70% of racial makeup is White but the city is well known for welcoming other communities. Due to many part-time jobs the per capita income of the city remains low at $23,296 while the median income for families is approximately $45,000. The school district is known to provide high quality education. Beside public schools this community has some of the best religiously oriented private institutions including Highlands Christians Academy, Zion Lutheran Christian School and St. Ambrose Catholic School. The public safety commission aggressively pursues community welfare programs including FDLE sexual predator watch list, auto theft prevention program, bicycle registration and traffic calming initiatives.

Rental Housing

Although rates for Deerfield Beach condo rentals differ due to their proximity to business financial center and the Beach, but average rates for studio is approximately $950 which increases to $1100 for 1 bedroom condo and almost $1,800 for a 3 bedroom house. This price decreases as accommodations are rented inland. Since housing prices have recently come down, it may also be a good idea to look for Deerfield Beach apartments for rent before deciding to relocate.

Fun Stuff

Tourism is the high point of Deerfield Beach economy. Its proximity to Miami and Boca Raton also makes this city a great choice to enjoy busy nightlife, attractions and delicious gourmet by avoiding the fast paced life in large cities. Local conservation groups have taken a hard-line stance on limiting further development along the Beach whereas local government has also started various high profile eco projects to increase greenery, and protect natural resources. The city holds regular events to celebrate its active lifestyle which includes its trademark Beach weddings that take place at three well preserved spots near the Embassy Suites hotel.
