Hollywood

History

With one man's vision, the city of Hollywood, Florida became a reality in the year of 1920. Joseph W. Young Jr. created the plans for his vision and began the process with building Hollywood Boulevard and placing three circular areas along it. His vision also included many elegant resort hotels, a Country Club, office buildings, a bridge where the intercostal waterways are located, a railroad station, a school and an Olympic salt-water pool. He then donated all of this to the city along with land designated for parks. His city included all underground telephone lines, power cables, water and sewers, sidewalks and street lighting. In 1925 Hollywood became a city and was incorporated and Young was elected as the first Mayor. He later resigned to begin the development of Port Everglades.
