Florida City

History

Florida City is described as an old city by South Florida standards. Many northerners moved down to the region because a company called the Model Land Company from Michigan purchased a great deal of land in what is now Florida city and advertised heavily to attract residents. Many people came down from Michigan but conflicted with the locals that had already settled in the area and most of the northerns eventually moved back. The city was incorporated in 1914 and the remaining families named the town Florida City. The city has a mainly urban feel with the majority of residents living in Florida City apartments.
