History


Miami Beach, Florida is a beautiful ocean town located in Miami-Dade County. Two well respected businessmen, the Lummus brothers had an idea to build the perfect city, which was right along the ocean. These two businessmen bought 400 acres of land and constructed their new property, Ocean Beach Realty Company. Their idea was to construct the perfect oceanfront city for many families to reside. Furthermore, the Collins Canal was being constructed. In the year 1913, another businessman Carl Fisher came to Miami Beach. Then, Miami Beach, and Miami were connected by a bridge called the Collins Bridge. This bridge is considered to be the most long wagon bridge in the entire world. Businesses began to open such as Joe's Stone Crab, and later in 1914, the first hotel was opened. In the year 1916, as an attempt to populate Miami Beach, the Lummus brothers offered anyone who wanted to build on their property a free lot. The only catch was that they had to build their home on the free lot. After this, the status of Miami Beach was quickly changed to a city. It was formerly just a town.
