Miami South Beach (SOBE)



 

History


South Beach, also known as (SOBE) began as farmland. Henry and Charles Lum purchased 165 acres in 1886 building the first home in South Beach and utilizing the 165 acres for coconut farming. In 1896 John Collins was given control of South Beach and began to survey the land.

By 1920 the land boom began. Population began to grow in the 1920's and famous billionaires such as J.C. Penny, Albert Champion, Rockwell LaGorce, Harvey Firestone, Harvey Stutz and Frank Sieberling built homes in Miami Beach.

Description


Architectural revolution came to South Miami Beach in the 1930s and with it came Streamline Moderne, Art Deco and Nautical Moderne architectural design. Flamingo Park and Espanola Way Historical District are historical neighborhoods where many Art Deco apartment buildings and homes can be located. The neighborhood of Flamingo West is known for its Art Deco buildings and single family homes. Collins Park is South Beach, Florida's up and coming neighborhood. There are also many condominum buildings which house mutli-families located east of Collins Park and north of Lincoln road.

Miami Beach South boundaries run from Dade Boulevard along Lincoln Road and is the hippest beach in Miami, Florida. Beautiful sandy beaches and mesmerizing crystal blue water makes the residents of South Beach proud to call SOBE their home.

Ocean drive is located on the easternmost part of South Beach which is also the site of Gianni Versace's former residence. Lincoln Road open-air mall is home to Dolce Gabana, Armani, Abercrombie & Fitch, and the Gap. Score and Funktion are also located in the open-air mall which are two of the most popular hotspots located in South Beach.
